Moisturizer Mania

Makeup on Aisle 64 - D'Or 24 K Moisturizer

Today, I want to talk about moisturizers. Moisturizers are very dear to me because my skin is aging and I want to protect it.  I use moisturizers every day!

Oil of Olay girl

Makeup on Aisle 64 - Oil of Olay Anti-aging MoisturizerWhat do I typically use?  I’d been an Oil of Olay girl forever.  A friend started me on this journey.  We were in our early 20s at the time and she said, “You know, when we turn 25 we’ll have to start using Oil of Olay.”  When I asked her why she said because it’s for skin over 25. Now that little piece of marketing stayed with me because a couple of years later, when I turned 25, my friend had moved awa.  We were no longer connected but I remembered her words.  I started using Oil of Olay.

When I hit 40, I started using the Oil of Olay Total Effects 7 Anti-aging Moisturizer.  When I moved into my fifties, I discovered the Oil of Olay 7 Total Effects for mature skin.   I’d stray from time to time, try new products, but I always went back to Oil of Olay.  Once again, I’m exploring my options.  Here’s what I’ve found.

Makeup on Aisle 64 - Firm skin Acai Moisturize  Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer

One of the new things I tried was Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer by Emminence.    I got it at a spa when I went for a facial.   I really liked it.  It was so creamy and the fragrance was wonderful.  It smelled like acai berries.  I felt totally pampered each time I used it.  So what was the problem?  Why did I stop using it?  Well, I got it at the spa when I went for a service.  When the person I was following left that spa, I didn’t go back.  It was that simple.

Skinn by Dimitri James

Then, I discovered Haute Look.  I know, I should be banned from shopping online, but that site offers so many great bargains at heavily discounted prices.   Anyway, I was on Haute Look and came across the brand Skinn by Dimitri James.  Two products caught my eye — Crease Release Triple Action Day Cream and Wrinkle Balm Night Treatment.  I decided to give this moisturizing duo a try.  I loved them.  One of the things that I liked so much about the day cream was how it felt.  It was creamy but non-greasy and it smelled a little like vanilla.  The night cream had a cool, pleasant fragrance that reminded me of aloe or cucumbers.  Nothing heavy or obvious.

Makeup on Aisle 64 - Hope in a JarHope in a Jar

Makeup on Aisle 64 - Hope in a JarOn another shopping “shopping trip” on Haute Look, I came across Hope in a Jar by Philosophy.  I first heard about Hope in a Jar on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  It was one of her new products shows and Hope in a Jar was featured.  I always wanted to try it but never thought I’d get the opportunity.  When I saw it on Haute Look, I placed an order.   This moisturizing face cream was a bit thinner than the products I’d been working with most recently.  It had a pleasant, clean smell – the kind associated with women and face creams.  It wasn’t obvious or off-putting, just kind of bland.  The texture reminded me of the  Noxema I used when I was a girl.  Back in the day, when girls turned 12 or 13, they started using Noxema face cream to clean and moisturize their skin.  Hope in a Jar didn’t smell like Noxema, but it reminded me of that consistency.  One concern was that there was no spf in it which meant I had to be sure to wear sunscreen with it.

Merle Norman Sheer Defense Tinted MoisturizerMakeup on Aisle 64 -SheerDefenseTintedMoist

I found the Merle Norman Sheer Defense Tinted Moisturizer in my bathroom.  I got it as freebie when I went in for a service, I came home, stuck it in a cabinet, and discovered it when I was doing some cleaning.  This product was the bomb!  Not only was it a moisturizer but this tinted product included sun screen and it worked for all skin types.  On really warm days, if I don’t feel like putting on a lot of makeup, I’d just apply the Sheer Defense Tinted Moisturizer and keep it moving.  I loved it and will definitely purchase when I use it up.  I think every woman should have a similar product in her cosmetic collection.

Makeup on Aisle 64 - D'or 24k Eye CreamD’Or 24K Luxury Skin Care Moisturizer

The last moisturizes I want to introduce are from the D’Or 24K Luxury Skin Care line.  This stuff is pricey.  One of the things I always think about is sustainability and unless I get this at a deeply discounted price (like 75% to 90% off) I can’t afford it.  But it’s nice.  Really nice.

Let’s start with the packaging.  The gold and white box is beautiful.  I’ve never purchased a product that the packaging delighted me so.  When I flipped the lid up, I had to remove the certificate of authenticity to reveal the gift inside.  The gold topped jar was absolutely gorgeous.  And, to reduce the chances of product contamination, a little plastic scoop was included.  I was totally impressed. Makeup on Aisle 64 - D'or 24k Eye Cream

What’d I get?  I bought the D’Or 24K Luxury Skincare Moisturizer for all skin types, the Night Cream, and the Eye Cream.  How do they work?   Beautifully!  I absolutely loved each of them.  I’ve been using these products since August and I’m about out of the day and night cream, but I’ve probably got another month to go for the eye cream.  Each of them has that thicker, creamier feel that I like in face products.  There’s no particular fragrance.  It just smells clean like, well, face cream.

Would l repurchase?  Absolutely, but only when Haute Look offers them again.  This product line starts around $200 and rangse to $1900.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford those prices.  So, when Haute Look has them on again, I’ll buy.  Until then, I’ll make do with less costly products.

Have you tried any new moisturizers lately?

It All Started Like This…

How did Makeup on Aisle 64 get started?

It all started like this!

I had a glam session with my daughter and came home with a new look.  It was such fun and I felt amazing.  I wanted to keep the look going so I checked out a few makeup tutorials on YouTube and beauty blogs — on YouTube and online.  It was just fun.  Then I got the idea to do a video myself and put it on Facebook for my friends and family to see.  They all had a good laugh but overall, they liked it.  I made another and another and they liked them, too.

“You should do a beauty blog!” I was told.

“Oh, shut up!” I said.  Then, I got to thinking, “Why not?  Why not give it a try.  As my thoughts began to percolate, I realized there were a lot of things I’d need to sort out, including what to call the blog; how to get it designed, and much, much, more.  It was daunting to say the least, but I decided to give it a try.  In the next day or so, I will figure some of this out and publish a welcome post as I begin this journey.  In the meantime, here are the videos that started it all.  Check them out.  I hope you enjoy them.
