July Favorites: Skin Care and Glam

July is the month of summer celebrations.  Backyard barbecues, picnics in the park, and family reunions top most people’s agenda. These kind of activities see us spending more time out of doors.  That means skin is exposed for longer periods of time to the harmful effects of the sun.  Protection is key.   My July favorites will help you protect your skin and glam it up.

Less is more for cleansing

July Favorites Makeup on Aisle 64: Purity by PhilosophyPurity by Philosophy is a face cleanser and makeup remover.  This 3-in-1 product replaces three products I used to buy.  I get a good cleanse, my makeup removed, and I save money since I’m only buying one product instead of three.  An added bonus for the woman north of 40 is that it also helps to hydrate the skin.

Body Polish

Brazilian Beauty: Exfoliate

I’m loving the Teadora Rainforest at Dawn Body Polish.  When I’m really in the mood to pamper myself, I give myself a good scrub using this body polish. I step out of the shower feeling so clean, so refreshed, and my skin just glows.

Body Butter

Brazilian Beauty: Moisturize

Then, I smooth on the Teadora Rainforest at Dusk Nourishing Body Butter.  These Amazon Brazilian skin products keep my skin so soft, so smooth, my husband can’t resist touching.

Protect the face!

Protecting my face from the effects of the sun is a must. I didn’t think much about this when I was younger, but now, as a woman of a certain age, protection is critical. I don’t walk out the door without applying sunscreen to my face. Philosophy’s the Supernatural “tricked” me into wearing it!
July Favorites Makeup on Aisle 64: the Supernatural Tinted Sunscreen by Philosophy This broad spectrum spf 15 tinted sunscreen goes on like foundation and provides a poreless, flawless canvas for anything else I choose to apply or I can wear it alone.  I’ll admit I didn’t used to bother about sunscreen.  I thought the melanin in my skin provided enough natural protection that I didn’t need to worry about it.  Well, I might have more melanin than some but the harmful rays of the sun can exact a toll over time.  I don’t mind my face showing the passage of time.  I think it shows character. However, I don’t need the sun adding wrinkles unnecessarily.   I don’t walk out the door without protecting my face and neither should you.

WOC Friendly?

July Favorites Makeup on Aisle 64 - Denise Wearing SunscreenOne question I am often asked is whether or not a product is women of color (WOC) friendly. This one is. I can wear it alone or under foundation. However, if you’re one of my more ebony sisters, you’ll want to apply foundation over it.  Otherwise, you’ll appear just a little bit ashy.

Summer Glam

Red is the color for July.  Get your glam on with Laura Geller’s Crème Sheers lip color in Cherries Jubilee and Mischo Beauty’s Luxury Nail Lacquers Front Row.  The two complement each other nicely.

July Favorites Makeup on Aisle 64: Cherries Jubilee - Laura Geller Creme SheersI love wearing Cherries Jubilee.  This totally kissable lip color is subtle enough for every day wear but bold enough to make a statement.  It goes on smoothly and doesn’t dry my lips.  Who decides kissability?  My husband.   If the lip product is sticky, transfers too much color, or he makes a fish face and wipes his mouth, it’s not kissable. This one? I get a smile and sometimes, another kiss!

July Favorites Makeup on Aisle 64: Front Row by Mischo BeautyFront Row is the perfect nail lacquer to wear with it.  What color is that and where’d you get it  are the questions  I’m asked when I wear it.   Front Row is long lasting, chip resistant, and totally affordable.

More importantly it’s 8-free meaning it’s free of formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, xylene and parabens , toxins that so many other nail lacquers contain. Pregnant? Vegan? Trying to be as toxin free as possible? This is the one for you.
